Building Confidence in Digital Risk
In this podcast Dr Will Howard (Wessex LMCs Medical Director and GP) explores the basics of Digital Risk in the first part of a series around Digital Risk Management for practices. He is joined by Dr Keith Gomes Pinto who is a GP, and also leads Dorset ICB in the digital risk sphere, and they discuss why GP practices need to consider digital risk, why now, and how can practices start to approach, and risk assess their own digital solutions in this world of accelerating AI fuelled solutions. Future editions in this series will include more detailed considerations of the standards we are being asked to meet, including medical device accreditation, as well as more in depth discussions about the Clinical Safety Officer (CSO) role.

Digital Risk Management: Future Proofing General Practice
Aimed at GPs, Practice Managers, operational and administrative staff involved in procuring, deploying and utilising digital health technologies.
This recorded webinar hosted by Dr. Will Howard, with guest speaker Dr Keith Gomes Pinto (from NHS Dorset), is designed to help clinical and operational staff navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of Digital Health and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
As digital health tools become more integrated into primary care, it is essential that they are robustly assessed for safety and efficacy to ensure they do not compromise patient care. This session highlights the importance of meeting legal obligations under the Health and Social Care Act 2012, specifically regarding information standards such as the DCB0160 and medical device regulation (MDR).
According to the BMA and CQC, appropriate regulatory approval must be firmly in place before any clinical use of any digital health tools.
The objectives of this recording are to:
- Re-enforce and expand knowledge surrounding the Digital Technology Assessment Criteria (DTAC) and specific Data Coordination Board (DCB) standards.
- Introduce Medical Device Regulation (MDR), including the role of the MHRA and the classification of software and AI as medical devices.
- Navigate the risks of Artificial Intelligence tools, utilising Ambient Voice Technology (AVT) as an example.
- Understand the roles and responsibilities of both the Integrated Care Board (ICB) and General Practice in the procurement, deployment, and use of digital health technology.
- Comply with recommendations from the MDU, MPS, CQC, BMA and NHS E including the requirement to nominate and train a Clinical Safety Officer (CSO) at practice or network level.

Our Letter to the Secretary of State

Secure Data Environment
This session explores the transition of the NHS toward a more secure, efficient, and transparent way of using health and care data and particularly general practice data for clinical trials and real-world studies that will inform front-line care.
Objectives:
- Understand what a secure data environment (SDE) is and the robust governance in place for data access requests.
- Understand the fundamental shift from data sharing to data access providing researchers with restricted access within a secure NHS environment where patient data is kept safe.
- Outline SDE governance processes including the role of the data access committee (DAC) and we have involved the public and engaged patients throughout.
- Outline the legal frameworks and principles that enable us to provide safe research access to data.
- Highlight the difference between CPRD, OpenSAFELY and the SDE.
- Outline the benefits to practices including reduced administrative burden, enhanced data governance, and new revenue streams.
- Highlight the power of data linkage utilising general practice data combined with other data sets to drive real-world insights which will enhance front-line services and positively influence patient care.
