Practice Business Manager - Somer Valley Medical Group
About Us
Nestled in the beautiful Bath & North East Somerset countryside, our thriving GP practice serves a growing population of around 19,000 patients from our three sites in Midsomer Norton and the surrounding area.
We’re a forward-thinking, multi-disciplinary team offering a full range of primary care services, including a dispensary and dedicated support for several large care homes.
With major housing developments underway and a long-term ambition to consolidate into a new, purpose-built health centre, we’re entering an exciting phase of growth and transformation — focused on excellence, sustainability and great care for our community.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for an exceptional Practice Business Manager to join our leadership team — someone who combines strategic vision with operational precision, and who brings energy, innovation and a passion for quality.
Working closely with the GP Partners, you’ll help drive the next stage of our journey: strengthening our financial and governance frameworks, modernising how we work, nurturing our colleagues and culture, and ensuring outstanding standards of safety and patient care.
This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of a progressive, community-minded practice — and make a real difference.
What You’ll Do
- Play a vital leadership role in the practice, overarching clinical and non-clinical teams and directly supporting the partnership.
- Lead and inspire a diverse non-clinical team with a progressive, people-centred leadership style.
- Be responsible for the seamless interface between clinical and non-clinical activity and teams in the practice.
- Drive quality, compliance and governance, ensuring we meet and exceed CQC standards and national frameworks.
- Oversee practice operations across three sites — ensuring efficient systems, patient access and a positive experience for all.
- Embed robust financial structures and provide clear, insightful reporting to the Partners.
- Champion continuous improvement, innovation, and a values-driven culture across the organisation.
- Ensure compliance with QOF, Enhanced Services and LCSs, optimising performance and income.
- Stay ahead of national developments, particularly the NHS Long Term Plan, and help the practice adapt for the future.
- Work collaboratively with our PCN, ICB, and local stakeholders to strengthen our place in the community.

- Essential:
- Senior management experience in primary care, NHS or a regulated health or social care setting.
- Strong financial, operational and governance expertise.
- Track record of delivering quality, compliance and improvement.

- High attention to detail and strong analytical mindset.
- Management qualification (e.g. MBA, MSc, AMSPAR Diploma or equivalent).
- Desirable:
- Knowledge of QOF, LCSs, and NHS contractual frameworks.
- Understanding of the NHS Long Term Plan and implications for general practice.
