Practice Manager - The Old Fire Station Surgery
We are excited to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and an experienced Practice Manager to lead our friendly practice team.
We would like to find a dynamic individual who will lead our management team and support our ever-changing business. The role will encompass financial planning, human resource management and leading the development of the service alongside the partners. Mentoring junior management staff will also be part of the role.
Candidates must be organised and conscientious; be able to problem solve and mediate, whilst looking to drive success.
Our practice consists of four partners, two salaried GP’s, nurses and admin/reception staff. We have approximately 9000 patients. The Partners and staff are committed to providing the highest level of patient care. Our premises are within an old fire station and we are lucky to have a beautiful garden.
Aspects of the job:
To manage and coordinate all aspects of practice functionality, motivating and managing staff, optimising efficiency and financial performance, ensuring the practice achieves its long-term strategic objectives in a safe and effective working environment. Through innovative ways of working, lead the team in promoting ED&I, SHEF, Quality & CI, confidentiality, collaborative working, service delivery, learning and development and ensure the practice complies with CQC regulations.
The main responsibilities of the role include:
- The overall responsibility for the day-to-day running of the surgery.
- Providing solid leadership based on a sound knowledge of business management, finance, planning, Human Resource management including recruitment.
- Presenting and analysing data to monitor quality.
- Attending local meetings representing the surgery and reporting to partners.
- Effectively managing all staff.
- Taking responsibility for security, repairs, insurance and maintenance of the premises, services and equipment.
- Ensuring that the practice complies with all aspects of Health & Safety at Work legislation.
- Managing all income, expenditure and accounts as well as preparing financial reports for the partners.
- Implementing and maintaining systems under direction from the partners.
- Handling patient enquiries and suggestions including oversight of the practice-based complaints procedure in conjunction with the relevant partner.
- Reviewing and updating the practices information leaflet/website, handling practice publicity and health education materials.
- Being involved in managing the computer system, including organising any maintenance and developments to the system.
- Ensuring practice compliance with Data Protection legislation.
- Preparing practice business plans and annual reports as directed by the partners.
- Mentoring junior management staff
This is an outline and not exhaustive, but above all you must have a thirst for knowledge and attention to detail, to manage a busy GP practice.

Qualifications
Essential
- Detailed and up to date knowledge of employment legislation as well as experience in managing a diverse workforce.
- Experience of working within NHS systems including SystmOne.
- Prior experience of leadership and personnel management, ideally within a healthcare setting or general practice would be beneficial.
- Qualifications in practice management.
- Experience in financial management.
- Ability to deliver a vision and a willingness and drive to adapt to NHS targets and business planning, whilst keeping abreast of legislative and contractual changes.
- Self-motivation and forward-thinking approach.
- Excellent organisational, management and planning skills, IT skills and communication skills.
- Ability to implement and manage change effectively.
- Ability to identify training and development needs in self and other as well as experience of appraising staff.
