Practice Manager Supporter – Shaun Austin-Bailey
Hi my name is Shaun, Practice Manager of Atherley House Surgery in Southampton; a small practice of 5600 patients with 3 GP partners. I have been working in General Practice since 2012, initially joining as an apprentice and moving in to an Operations Manager role in 2016, before taking on my first post as Practice Manager in 2021.
Over the years I have had the privilege of experiencing General Practice from a variety of perspectives and this has given me a passion for driving quality improvement. As well as this I have a particular interest in HR and finance.
As a relatively new PM (not sure how long I can continue to claim that for) I can remember how it feels to step in to Practice Management for the first time. Our roles are unique and becoming ever more complex and I have unquestionably found the most valuable resource we have is our peers; I’m not an expert but happy to share my experiences and provide support where I can.
Outside of the General Practice bubble I enjoy keeping active through the gym and swimming and have found it a great detox after a day in the office (although a takeaway pizza works just as well).
Every day as a PM presents a new challenge and for me that is certainly what keeps the job alive! If I can be of any help please do not hesitate to get in touch.
