Practice Manager Supporter – Daniel Ferrett
Hello! My name is Daniel and I am the Practice Business Manager at The Drayton Surgery; a 24,000 patient surgery in Portsmouth. I work with 6 GP Partners, 8 Salaried GPs, 9 Advanced Nurse/Clinical Practitioners and a whole host of other staff roles across two sites. We are also the lead practice in our PCN.
I started in General Practice in 2016 as an Office Manager at a 4,500 surgery in Southampton that had recently been placed in to Special Measures by CQC. I have experience of CQC inspections having done 3 within 6 months and coming out with an overall rating as ‘Good’. I became a Practice Manager in July 2017 and have been loving it ever since.
I joined Drayton in January 2020 in the midst of a massive building renovation project and just at the start of COVID. To say I jumped in at the deep end is an understatement! However, I love my job and enjoy the challenges that each day brings.
Outside of work I love a good lengthy walk and have done two 100km Ultra Marathons. I’ve also recently discovered gaming and enjoy the X-Box (I may only play the Lego games, but they’re still fun!). I have a backgrounds in theatre and this still runs through my veins to this day.
I don’t profess to know everything, but I have done an awful lot in my time as a Practice Manager and I am really looking forward to being a support to anyone new to the position – it can be daunting, but with great support, you can do great things! One of the main keys to enjoying the job is having a network of other Managers you can turn to for support – sometimes, what you think is a stupid question is often in at least three other people’s mind!
