Eyes, Remote Consulting, Red Flags and Optometrists

Dr Camilla Janssen, GP in Hants talks with two optometrists, Sean Matthew, also Chair of Hampshire Local Optical Committee (LOC) and Neil Constantine-Smith, senior assessor for the college of optometrist. It discusses common eye conditions and management of these, as well as covering some common eye conditions and highlighting the extended scope of optometrists care and what they can offer in the community, assessments of flashes and floaters for example - negating the need to escalate some eye problems up to secondary care.

Please make sure GP's, nurses and reception staff are aware of what optometrists can see and manage. This will enable appropriate signposting of pts, freeing up appointments and avoiding escalating to secondary care unless appropriate.  We would advise adding  http://www.lookafteryoureyes.org link onto your practice website.

Target audience - Doctors and Nurses in Primary care and in the emergency setting.

A is for arrythmias

B is for bleeding

C is for … and so on!
