Hi, my name is Matt Perkins, and I am the Practice Manager at Barton Webb-Peploe Partnership, a surgery of 10750 patients in the New Forest Area, split across two leased sites in Barton on Sea and Lymington.

We have 10,750 patients, and despite not being a large practice, have the dubious honour of having the highest number of dementia patients in West Hampshire, due largely to 39% of our population being over 65 yrs old! From 1st April 2019, I am becoming the Senior Business Manager of a merged Partnership, renamed the ‘Coastal Medical Partnership’, consisting of the three practices in New Milton & Barton on Sea with 34,000 patients, 21 Partners, and 130 staff.

I have been a Practice Manager for 10 years, coming from an unrelated business background. I do therefore still remember what it is like to start in this role with no NHS background, so am well placed to help and new PMs who might be in the same position. The only way I have survived the last ten years is due to the excellent network of Practice Managers that there are in Wessex – it is easy to feel isolated in this job due to the unique challenges we face as PMs, and so it is always encouraging and helpful to talk and learn from my colleagues in other practices on a daily basis. If there is an area of my role I enjoy the most, it would be the operational / financial side, but am happy to listen and help in any way I can.

Outside work, I am married, have two children, and love getting out sailing and racing on the Solent at any given opportunity.
