Accessible Information Standard
Accessible Information Standard aims to ensure patients and carers with a disability, impairment or sensory loss:
• Get information they can access and understand
• Receive any communication support they need.
It is hoped that the Impact of this will be:
- Improved patient outcomes and experiences, and the provision of safer and more personalised care and services.
This Lunch and Learn training resource is to increase the awareness of practice staff to this new piece of legislation. The Accessible Information Standard applies to all GP practices and providers must have been compliant with the standard since 31st July 2016.
By the end of the training session, delegates will be able to:
•Describe different communication and information needs, and the impact on individuals of not meeting these needs
•Explain the aim and purpose of the Accessible Information Standard
•know the steps to take to prepare for and implement the Accessible Information Standard at their practice.
More information is on our website here https://www.wessexlmcs.com/accessibleinformationstandard2
NB: Please do not try and source any materials in braille etc or go to any expense like this at the moment. There are resources on our website where you can start to download brochures if you need them, and more resources will become available nationally in time. We understand that this work we have done on AIS is ahead of the national picture so lots of resources that are promised, are yet to have been published
We welcome any feedback from you and your staff when you have run any of our Lunch and Learn training resources.
