Mental Capacity Act
Mental Capacity Act
This Lunch and Learn resource will give a good understanding of the importance of assessing capacity and treating patients with dignity and respect at all times within the law.
The resource looks at mental capacity and how to assess it. It describes the importance of the Mental Capacity Act and its 5 main principles.
The legal framework is discussed along with how the Lasting Power of Attorney, Court of Protection & Advanced Directive to Refuse Treatment fit into the treatment of the patient. The new Liberty Protection Standards (LPS) are discussed as they are expected come into force to replace the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS).
There is opportunity for the team to discuss all aspects of mental capacity and how the practice treat patients who may lack mental capacity.
This resource has been written with guidance from Wendy Thorogood, Director AoCPP
