Practice Nurse - Gudge Heath Lane Surgery

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Gudge Heath Lane Surgery for an accomplished, highly motivated Practice Nurse to join our friendly and forward-thinking clinical team. The ideal candidate will be registered with the NMC and ideally have experience working within Primary Care.

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent

Salary: Dependent on experience

Hours: 24-30 per week split over 3-4 days (discussed at interview- Wednesdays are required)

Job responsibilities

The Practice Nurse will work as part of the primary healthcare team providing Personal Medical Services to the patients of the Partnership.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Cytology
  • Family Planning
  • Wound care / ulcer care / Doppler
  • Removal of Sutures
  • Travel Clinic and vaccinations
  • ECGs
  • Routine immunisations/Childhood immunisations
  • Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
  • Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings
  • Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
  • Chronic Disease Management : Special Interest/ responsibilities e.g in Asthma / COPD / Diabetes or Coronary Heart Disease and Contraception.
  • Following agreed clinical protocols
  • Clean equipment as necessary as per IPC guidelines
  • Attend and participate in any Nurse meetings when required.
  • Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post


  • In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately

  • Using personal security systems within the workplace according to the Partnership guidelines
  • Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks

  • Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards
  • Reporting potential risks identified

Person Specification



  • Degree in nursing
  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC- applicants must have current UK professional NMC registration)


  • Previous experience working in General Practice
  • Good Communication skills
  • Change management skills and ability to support patients to change lifestyle
  • Clinical skills – cervical, cytology, immunisations, vaccination
  • Understanding and sympathetic nature
  • Ability to work in a team and understand other member’s needs
  • Discretion and confidentiality
  • Skilled use in computer software (EMIS Web / Docman10 / ICE)
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and think logically
