Practice Manager Supporter – Alex Kimber

Hello, I’m Alex Kimber and I have been a practice manager in Sherborne, Dorset since 2010 and a Managing Partner since 2017.

Over the past decade I’ve seen and experienced a lot of change within primary care. In recent years, as well as managing the practice, I’ve managed our PCN, the PCN’s covid vaccination programme and our practice merger, doubling the size of the practice and all that entails. My practice, The Grove Medical Centre has an ever-growing list size standing currently around 12900 with over 65 GPs and directly employed staff and a further 13 PCN staff based here. We’re a GMS dispensing and training practice and have been a TPP SystmOne practice using Ardens since 2013.

Prior to PM life, I held a few roles within commissioning and service improvement within various iterations of Dorset PCTs. And going back further I’ve had a few interesting jobs including working in submarine sonar research and wearing a well-known DIY orange apron on store visits!

I’m a working mum with two teenage children and seem to spend most of my life outside work as a taxi service to their various sports!

Like all PMs, I spend most of my days plate spinning and juggling and there is always something new that crops up. I always have found it useful to have someone to just chat things over with who understands the job role so I’m happy to share my experiences and what knowledge I have accumulated and hopefully some of it is of use.
