General practice is changing, and practice nursing teams are evolving to meet the increasing demands and pressures currently facing primary care. As a result, many general practice nurses (GPNs) are taking on more advanced roles, and more routine tasks are often delegated to health care assistants.

To ensure the provision of high quality safe care for patients it is essential that all clinicians are competent, with clarity around roles and responsibilities and ensuring that they can provide evidence of continuous professional development (CPD). This also fits with the NMCs recommendations for revalidation.
Appraisals started as a formative process for GPs. They are now well established and are undertaken to a level of quality that can exceed many other specialities within the NHS.

We try and get round all the VTS schemes to talk on the LMC, current general practice and political issues – if you don’t have us in your year’s agenda ask your course organiser to get in touch.
