Flu 2019/20 - Claiming and Coding
Claiming for vaccines
Vaccination of eligible individuals can commence as soon as the recommended vaccine is available, the process should be completed by the end of November. However, eligible patients can be offered influenza vaccine at any point in the flu season and the enhanced service specification for flu includes payment for vaccines given up until 31 March 2020. Please see the following:
NHS digital have published a full list of Snomed codes within the business rules for 2019/20. We have taken the codes for seasonal influenza this year and put them into an easy to use document as seen below. Click here to print a full size copy of these.
The key changes are:
- Most notably, SNOMED code 822851000000102 (aka 65ED. in Read) has been removed. The reason this code was removed was because the recommended vaccines should be used for patients within age and at risk groups and 65ED. is a generic code and therefore not specific to any of these requirements.
- Where the count stipulates either the first or the second vaccination, there are specific codes which should be used. These codes have been used in the business rules for a number of years as they are more specific. For payment purposes only the appropriate vaccinations as set out in the business rules should be used.
If an updated set of read codes are published at a later date we will add these to our document.
