Falsified Medicines Directive (FMD)
Please see guidance below that has been taken from the Dispensing Doctors Association (DDA) website in relation to the implementation of the Falsified Medicines Directive (FMD):
New FMD resources for dispensing & non dispensing practices have finally been published to support implementation of the directive:
This information covers the following:
- How to use the toolkit
- Verification & Decommissioning
- When to decommission
- Aggregated Barcodes
- What’s in and out of scope?
- FMD Solutions
The last section includes references to suppliers, but also makes it clear that GP IT Futures framework, which will replace GPSoC and which will pay for essential GP IT, will include the capability to support FMD.
Our advice remains that to ‘show willing’ with compliance you need to:
- Read this information and be aware of the state of play
- Start registration with SecurMed – please see note below
- Do NOT invest privately in FMD IT until NHS funding is received.
Please note; when registering as a requester you will not be able to fully complete the registration process due to the lack of details of approved GP IT suppliers. Therefore you need to start the registration process and save the registration at this point, so that when the relevant information is available you can complete the registration fully.
For dispensing practices we would suggest accessing the DDA website to review the information & resources that are available. You need to to be a member to access this therefore for dispensing practices it may be worth considering if you're not already. Click here for further information on becoming a member.
