Correction of Advice on The Administration of Live Vaccines and Scam Alerts

Dear all,

ADMINISTERING FLU, PNEUMOCCOCCAL AND SHINGLES TOGETHER

Please be advised that in light of new guidance we would like to correct some advice given in our last PM newsletter. Public Health England have circulated the advice so your practice nurse is already likely to be aware.

The advice used to be that a 4 week interval between live vaccines. This has now been revised so there only remain concerns between MMR and yellow fever and MMR and varicella (and zoster). Otherwise all live vaccines can be administered at any time before or after.

The full rationale and advice can be read here:

LATEST SCAMS

Thank you to Claire Richards of the Christchurch Medical Centre for alerting us to this scam:  One of my surgeries had their bank account hacked this week. The funds were requested by a cleaning company.  A vigilant Practice Support Manager meant that the situation was avoided and no funds were removed.  However, a review of the situation by HCC advised that a virus started with an email going to the junk folder and advising ‘this invoice is ready to pay’ which turned out to be an empty document (until it was clicked on…).

Thank you also to Karen Fox from the Ridgeway View Practice for contacting us about this scam: One of my staff took a phone call yesterday from a man saying he was from “On Line Computing.” He told her there was a virus on her PC and to allow him access to her computer remotely to fix it. The member of staff asked for his name and he hung up. This obviously could have lead to access to patient or other very sensitive data. Unfortunately this member of staff had a similar call at home some months back and allowed the caller remote access to her computer, he was then able to defraud a significant amount of money from her.

With best wishes,

Lisa
