Announcement relating to Dr Nigel Watson, Wessex LMCs Chief Executive

Date sent: Monday 11 June 2018

Email sent by Wessex LMCs to all GPs and PMs, on Monday, 11 June 2018

Dear %recipient.firstname%,

It is with great pleasure that Wessex LMCs is pleased to announce that Dr Nigel Watson has been award an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list for his many years of service to General Practice. This award not only supports Nigel's years of service to General Practice but also Nigel's hard work and dedication in continuing to strive for a better General Practice to the benefit of all.

Also, as a consequence of both Nigel's local and national work, he has also been appointed chair of an independent review panel looking at the "partnership model" and how it needs to evolve in the modern NHS; the panel will report back to Health and Social Care Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, and NHS England's Chief Executive, Simon Stevens, towards the end of 2018.  Nigel has accepted this challenge with great enthusiasm and, in true Nigel fashion, will work tirelessly to achieve change on behalf of General Practice.  Whilst still maintaining his role as Chief Executive of Wessex LMCs, Nigel will be taking a six month sabbatical from his practice in order to dedicate the time required for this review. A link to the formal announcement is as follows:- https://www.gov.uk/government/news/chair-appointed-to-lead-independent-review-into-gp-partnership-model

I am sure you will all join with the proud LMC Team in congratulating Nigel on his MBE and his appointment to Chair of the review panel.

Kind Regards

Dr Gareth Bryant
Deputy Chief Executive
