Introduction

This excellent training programme will provide HCAs with a comprehensive introduction to Diabetes and will identify essential skills required to support the Practice Nurse and GP in undertaking diabetic reviews.  The purpose of this course is to provide a safe foundation of knowledge and a competency base on which to build.  Each HCA will be provided with resources, to include clinical competencies for signing off in their organisation, as evidence of learning.

Aims

  • What is diabetes? Type I

  • Understanding Hypoglycaemia

  • What is Diabetes Type II

  • Awareness of medication

  • Blood pressure / Life style / Advice.

  • Fats/weight loss

  • At risk foot examination with competencies

Objectives

Following completion of this training it is expected that the HCA will feel more confident to  support the clinical staff with Diabetic reviews in the Practice.  As this is only a 1-day programme the trainers will be advising further learning in addition to the sign off of competencies that they issue.  For example, you will be provided with the link to TREND competencies and the FRAME competencies, both of which are free National E-Learning tools that are well recognised and updated to ensure the latest advice.

As her career developed, she later extended her role to become a nurse practitioner and independent prescriber, working in both leadership and acute care.
