Introduction

This 3 hour interactive workshop (fully funded for practice staff working in the Wessex area) is for any health care professional working clinically in primary care. Patients are getting more and more complicated and it seems things are rarely straightforward these days. During the session we will explore some of the strategies we can use as clinicians to help create certainty out of an increasingly complex world!

Aims

  • Do you ever feel overwhelmed when things are not clear cut with patients ?
  • Do you worry about over or under investigating patients - and how do you know if you got it right?
  • Do you worry that blood results can be difficult to interpret?
  • Does it feel like more patients are being medicalised and given labels / medicines than ever before?

If you answered YES to any of the above then this workshop will help you feel more comfortable with managing uncertainty, and will make links to overdiagnosis and how we as clinicians can gauge how to pitch it at the right level, and reduce that fear of being criticised for over or under treating someone.

Objectives

By the end of the session delegates

  • will have developed some helpful strategies to deal with uncertainty in patients
  • will feel a bit more confident when communicating risk to patients
  • will worry a bit less about over or under investigating patients - and how to know if you got it right

Please note this session will NOT be recorded
