This training will be run over Zoom. To participate you will need to install Zoom on your device, and ensure it is has a microphone, speaker, and camera. Please Note: Some trainers will no longer allow you to stay on the call if you do not have your camera operating.

Introduction 

This introductory (or refresher) session aims to explore and enable the attendee to understand the elements and importance of wound and skin assessment plus management of wounds; there will be a section on types of wound tissue and the implication, eg. slough, necrosis.

The session will also identify the key barriers to wound healing in order to select appropriate dressings/treatments that will support the selection of appropriate dressings/treatments in order to maximise outcomes (note-actual dressing selection is another session-see website) This session encompasses wound infection/biofilm recognition and decisions for treatment.

Aims

This session covers:

  • The Stages and Process of Wound Healing
  • Assessing and describing the wound bed to aid appropriate care planning
  • Wound/skin cleansing and washing rationale
  • Care of peri-wound skin including use of emollients and topical steroids
  • Barriers to healing- (patient and wound). e.g. co-morbidities, wound infection, biofilm
  • Learning Resources
  • When and to who to refer
  • Tissue Viability nurse role and referrals

Objectives

This session will give the attendee the theory, practical ideas, and key elements to wound assessment and why wounds may not heal appropriately.

NB: The session will not deem the learner 'competent'. The ‘journey to competency’ will be explored using national capability framework resource and subsequent eLearning modules, as will contacting the Tissue Viability team to access any local policies, documents and tools to support their learning that may be available.

This option is for everyone working in a Practice in the Wessex LMC catchment area that does not fit into one of the other options on offer.

This is the cost if you are not working in a Practice in the Wessex LMCs catchment area. £230.00

Please be advised there are spaces available on this course unless it states otherwise. If a course is full you will be given the option to book on the waiting list. If you are on the waiting list and a place becomes available, you will be notified automatically you do NOT need to contact Wessex LMCs. 

Refunds

All delegate fees are non-refundable, however, if it has been agreed that a refund is possible, it will be subject to an administration charge of £5 for fees of £100 or less, or £10 for fees more than £100.
