ZOOM ONLINE EVENT This training will be run over Zoom. To participate you will need to install Zoom on your device, ensure it has a microphone, speaker, and camera. Please Note: Some trainers will no longer allow you to stay on the call if you do not have your camera operating.

To participate you will need a device capable of running Zoom, that also has a microphone and speaker, a camera is beneficial but not essential.

You are required to attend both days to be eligible for your certificate of attendance.

Please Note: We will need to pass your email address to the trainer, so that he can send you some pre-course work and any other appropriate materials.  Continuation with this booking will be taken as your tacit approval for us to do this.


Are you new to management and never run an appraisal before?  Do you feel your appraisal system needs a rethink, or to be refreshed? Maybe you don’t like running appraisals, and don’t feel you and your team benefit from them?  If so, this 2 part virtual programme will be an ideal opportunity to look at best practice, and update your skills.  This course is suitable for anyone running appraisals, including nurses.


During these sessions we will be looking at:

  • Why do we do appraisals?
  • Remind yourself and refocus on the benefit of appraisals
  • Appraisal and performance management
  • Understand the “no surprises” philosophy
  • Communication Skills for appraisals
  • Focus on the skills of questioning and listening in the context of appraisals
  • Providing effective feedback
  • Setting meaningful objectives
  • Development and career plans
  • Understanding your appraisal system
  • Share and compare your system to those of your colleagues, understand the pros and cons of your process
  • Appraisals as an action plan


Following this training it is expected that delegates will have gained an appreciation of the benefits of a well conducted appraisal both to the individuals involved and their organisation, and will be confident to appraise their colleagues in a fair, robust and meaningful way.

Kevin Chard is a learning and development professional with experience ranging from the production of development programmes / frameworks through to delivery as a facilitator / trainer / coach. Now working on a freelance basis, Kevin has been a part of our development programme since 2016.

All GPs and members of staff working within GP practices in the Wessex LMCs’ catchment area

This option is for everyone working in a Practice in the Wessex LMC catchment area that does not fit into one of the other options on offer.


Non Members

This is the cost if you are not working in a Primary Care Practice in the Wessex LMCs catchment area. £340.00

Waiting List

Please be advised there are spaces available on this course unless it states otherwise. If a course is full you will be given the option to book on the waiting list. If you are on the waiting list and a place becomes available, you will be notified automatically you do NOT need to contact Wessex LMCs. 


All delegate fees are non-refundable, however, if it has been agreed that a refund is possible, it will be subject to an administration charge of £5 for fees of £100 or less, or £10 for fees more than £100.

Attendance Details

In certain circumstances, we will share details of attendance or non-attendance with the person who booked and/or funded this course for the delegate. If you have any objection to your attendance status being shared, please can you contact Louise Greenwood (Director of Education & Training, Wessex LMCs) at least 48 hours before the start of the training on louise.greenwood@wessexlmcs.org.uk
