This training will be run over Zoom. To participate you will need to install Zoom on your device, and ensure it is has a microphone, speaker, and camera. Please Note: Some trainers will no longer allow you to stay on the call if you do not have your camera operating.

To participate you will need a device capable of running Zoom, that also has a microphone and speaker, a camera is beneficial but not essential.


This interactive and comprehensive virtual course has been designed to assist practices in meeting their legal obligations under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.  The course provides the necessary knowledge to enable those personnel who successfully complete it to carry out the duties of a Fire Warden in a professional and competent manner. The course is suitable for Practice Managers, Supervisors, Fire Wardens requiring initial or refresher training, or any member of staff who has a specific responsibility towards fire safety.


The course syllabus includes the following topics:

  • Fire legislation
  • Common causes of fire
  • Incidence of fire in healthcare and causes
  • The nature of fire and chemistry of combustion
  • Fire alarms
  • Fire prevention
  • Roles and duties of a fire warden
  • The main causes and effects of fires in the workplace
  • Actions on the outbreak of a fire
  • Identification and use of fire extinguishers (including practical session)
  • Emergency evacuation procedures
  • Safety features within buildings

Mr Gary Hepburn

Gary set up Sirius Business Services Ltd (Sirius) at the end of 2000. Gary is a member of many professional bodies such as Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, International Institute of Risk and Safety Managers, Institute for Learning, Royal College of Nursing, Association of Healthcare Trainers, the Council for Professionals as Resuscitation Officers and the Institution of Fire Engineers. Throughout his career Gary has worked with and advised many major and international companies in the healthcare, petrochemical, financial services, pharmaceutical, media, research, IT, engineering industries, facilities management and Government organisations as well as working with smaller commercial, charitable and voluntary organisations. Gary has held several senior appointments in the NHS in Primary Care, Community Hospitals, Emergency Care and Mental Health.

Gary has been an active first aider/medic since he first qualified as a Dive Medic over 30 years ago and has many years hands on experience in event medical services, medical repatriation and as a first responder for the NHS. He has also qualified as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). He has been a health and safety professional, has developed and led training and provide advice and consultancy services for over 30 years. He has specialised in Primary care for the last 15 years.

Mr Keith Welsh

Keith has been working with Sirius Business Services since 2006, qualifying as a first aid instructor and assessor the same year. He has many years practical experience in both the emergency medicine and fire fighting fields. Keith is an Emergency Medical Technician and for the last 17 years has been a Community Responder for South West Ambulance Service, being called out to 999 medical emergencies in his local area. Keith also provides event medical cover at various events around the south of England. Keith trained as a retained fire fighter with Dorset Fire and Rescue Service and is a Graduate member of the Institution of Fire Engineers. Keith is also a corporate member of the Chartered Management Institute and a Nursing Support member of the Royal College of Nursing.

All GPs and members of staff working within GP practices in the Wessex LMCs’ catchment area

This option is for everyone working in a Practice in the Wessex LMC catchment area that does not fit into one of the other options on offer.


Non Members

This is the cost if you are not working in a Practice in the Wessex LMCs catchment area. £90.00

Waiting List

Please be advised there are spaces available on this course unless it states otherwise. If a course is full you will be given the option to book on the waiting list. If you are on the waiting list and a place becomes available, you will be notified automatically you do NOT need to contact Wessex LMCs. 


All delegate fees are non-refundable, however, if it has been agreed that a refund is possible, it will be subject to an administration charge of £5 for fees of £100 or less, or £10 for fees more than £100.

Attendance Details

In certain circumstances, we will share details of attendance or non-attendance with the person who booked and/or funded this course for the delegate. If you have any objection to your attendance status being shared, please can you contact Louise Greenwood (Director of Education & Training, Wessex LMCs) at least 48 hours before the start of the training on
