Introduction

This session is for experienced Practice Nurses who want to explore the dilemmas faced, and seek realistic and practical solutions of the care of the complex leg ulcer patient and allied complications. We will discuss advanced decision making in the application of the correct therapeutic treatments, despite an inconclusive or confusing ABPI.

Also will look at differential diagnosis, eg. vasculitis, cancer etc and applying adequate compression in difficult anatomical areas

Aims

We will consider:

  • What is an abnormal Doppler result?
  • Defining complex leg ulcers
  • Local and systemic reasons for making the ABPI result unreliable
  • Consider ABPI reliability in the presence of oedema-The BLS document
  •  Deciding on compression levels without a Doppler test?
  • Looking at differential diagnoses eg. Cancer, Pyoderma, vasculitis, medication induced etc
  • Who can help?

Objectives

Following this session, the learner will have been given guidance, practical advice and support in the application of the correct therapeutic treatments or signposting, in cases of complex leg (ulcer) patients cases and their allied complications.

A modified pdf of the presentation and resources/links will be available on the Wessex LMCs Website after the event.

Please note this session will NOT be recorded
