Seniority Payments

These are payments to GPs which reward experience and are based on the number of years of experience.

"GP" means an individual GP provider (a partner, single-handed practitioner or shareholder in a limited company that is a GMS contractor)

The years of experience is "reckonable service".  For most of us this runs from the date we were first registered with the GMC (including provisional registration).

This pot of money is outside the rest of our pay awards and will dwindle if the pool of non-salaried GPs diminishes. Our negotiators have advised that renegotiating this system of payments is unwise even though it is not entirely fair.

The Provisional figure for the Seniority Payments calculations 2009-2010 for England is £94,743.
