Repeat Prescribing
"Batch prescribing" is a relatively new process which allows patients on repeat prescriptions of stable, regular medication to receive their medication in a new way.
The GP can prescribe medication for a suitable period (perhaps twelve months for something like thyroxine) and the patient can then pick up all medication direct from the pharmacy at the intervals prescribed (e.g. monthly)
It is ideal for patients on uncomplicated repeats e.g. levothyroxine or stable medication for other conditions such as hyperlipidaemia and hypertension.
