Data Encryption and Back up Tapes
Following a number of blunders involving loss of sensitive information within government agencies guidance has been issued about the safe storage and transmission of patient identifiable data by "removable media and devices".
NHS Connecting for Health has procured an encryption solution for removable media and full disk encryption for use by the NHS . The selected product, 'SafeBoot', a McAfee solution, is provided by Trustmarque Solutions. This product is suitable for full encryption of disks and other removable media but does not meet the requirement for encryption of tape backups.
GPSoC has announced has announced in June 2008 that INPS, iSOFT and Healthy Software have agreed details of their back up tape encryption service under NHS CfH which means PCTs can nopw order services from thes suppliers under the GPSoC arrangements.
