Dr Nigel Watson MBBS FRCGPI work 2 days a week as a partner in a training practice in the New Forest, with nearly 13,000 patients which has twice the national average of patients aged >65. I obtained my Fellowship by Assessment of the Royal College of GPs in 2002. I am the Senior Partner and have lead responsibility for CHD, Stroke, epilepsy and minor surgery. The practice gained the RCGP Quality Practice Award in 2004. Since the start of the new GP contract the practice has achieved maximum Quality and Outcome Framework (QoF) points. The practice focuses on providing high quality, patient centred care. Local Medical Committee (LMC)I was appointed the CEO of Wessex Local Medical Committees in 2004. The LMC represents over 3,000 GPs, working in 420 practices in Dorset, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and Wiltshire. In this area there are 8 Primary Care Trusts and 2 Strategic Health Authorities. There are 3 LMCs in Wessex, Dorset, Hampshire & IoW and Wiltshire. The LMC works constructively with all PCTs looking to find solutions to existing problems. General Practitioners Committee of the BMAI have been the elected representative for the GPs in Hampshire & the IoW on the GPC for the last 10 years. I have served on a number of sub-committees including Practice Finance, Information Management and Technology, Contracts and Regulations and Commissioning and Service Development.
