Dr Christine Dewbury
I was Occupational Health Physician for staff at Southampton General Hospital for 5 years, during which time I trained as a counsellor. During this time I set up and developed the pilot project for Nuffield Hospitals' Regional Health Screening programme, which I ran for a 5 year period. My counselling experience was put to good use in Occupational Health and in the Screening programme and also in a part time job working with adolescents at Leigh House in Hampshire. Having taken part in a radio phone-in on local radio I decided to seek a new challenge and made a complete change by becoming Medical Secretary to a European medical education foundation, EuroTransMed. In this role I also worked with an independent television production company in London as the Commissioning Editor for EuroTransMed's interactive medical education programme. This was broadcast live across Europe on a weekly basis throughout the academic year. After 5 years I decided to return to work locally and was appointed Medical Adviser in Primary Care at Portsmouth Health Authority. It was in this role that I first encountered Bob Button, who was at the time Medical Secretary for Wessex LMCS. He persuaded me to join him at the LMC on a part time basis some 8 years ago. Working for Wessex LMCS has continued to be an immensely interesting, challenging and worthwhile experience. It engages my brain and utilises my extensive and varied experience to the full.
