About the Dorset LMC
The Committee of the LMC in Dorset consists of 26 members elected from 14 constituencies. The constituencies are now aligned with the 2 PCTs, Dorset and Bournemouth & Poole.

In addition, the LMC Chief Executive and several other persons are co-opted or invited to attend, including Senior Officers from the Dorset Health Authority.

The LMC meets six times a year and an Executive Sub-Committee used to meet the PCT officers beforehand but these arrangements are under review. This Sub-Committee consists of the LMC Chairman, the Vice Chairman, LMC Chief Executive and three other members and it deals with urgent matters and examines areas needing detailed consideration. In addition, members serve on several other Committees both locally and nationally.

Elections are held every two years under the terms of the LMC constitution, and all GPs are eligible for nomination and election.

Currently, Dorset has 2 PCTs, 108 Practices, and 448 GPs.
