Introduction

This dynamic refresher session is designed for Practice Nurses and Allied Health Professionals looking to refine and strengthen their respiratory assessment skills.

Aims

This training session aims to equip participants with the skills to undertake a focused and effective respiratory history, develop a clear understanding of the key components of the respiratory examination, and accurately distinguish between normal and abnormal findings.

Participants will also learn to recognise red flag signs and symptoms associated with respiratory conditions and will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge by conducting a virtual reality respiratory examination in a realistic clinical scenario.

Objectives

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Conduct a targeted and comprehensive respiratory history with an emphasis on symptom analysis.
  • Understand and perform the key components of the respiratory examination, including observation, percussion, palpation, and auscultation.
  • Differentiate between normal and abnormal respiratory findings.
  • Identify red flag signs and symptoms indicating potentially serious respiratory conditions.

Content

  • History Taking
A focused approach to gathering a comprehensive respiratory history, including key symptoms, risk factors, and red flags.

  • Respiratory System Examination
Step-by-step instruction on conducting a thorough respiratory examination, including inspection, palpation, percussion, and auscultation.

  • Virtual Reality Scenario
An immersive, interactive case-based experience that allows participants to apply history-taking and examination skills in a realistic clinical setting.

Places are limited to ensure an optimal, focused learning experience for attendees.
