Introduction

This training is ideal for all Practice Managers, PCN Managers and anyone working in finance within GP practices and PCNs. This session is led by Matt Perkins, a PM Supporter and Business Manager who currently runs a single practice / PCN across 4 sites with a patient population of 33,500. Matt will share his thoughts and practical tips on how to run Practice finances as tightly and efficiently as possible. Harriet Hole from Ash Lane will be joining Matt bringing expertise on maximising profit from drug reimbursement.

Aims

By the end of this two-hour live interactive webinar, attendees will have an opportunity to reflect on the health of their Practice’s finances. Are you making the most of every financial opportunity? Are you minimising costs where you can?

Content

During this session we will be looking at:

  • Back to basics – because they work! e.g. budgets and cashflow, profit and loss
  • How to cost a service accurately
  • What current threats are there to profits?
  • Where are there funding streams that you might have overlooked?
  • The benefits of good financial control and minimising costs
  • Good financial governance and shared risk & responsibility

In addition, Harriet will be giving hints & tips for maximising Drugs Income

“GP practices across England are continuing to face pressure on drug reimbursement income. Harriet from Ash Lane will share the six rules they have developed to identify and address the most common causes of declining PPA drug profitability. Drawing on their work with hundreds of practices, she'll walk through how to calculate your practice's drug profitability and the practical steps you can take to improve it. There will also be an opportunity for Q&A covering the FP34 claims process, claimable items, PCSE drug payments, plus anything else you'd like to know about Drugs Payments.

Mr Matt Perkins
Mr Matt Perkins
Business Manager

Matt is Business Manager at Coastal Medical Partnership, a merged practice of 33,000 patients in the New Forest Area split over 4 sites in the New Milton and Lymington area.

Matt has been a Practice Manager for 16 years, coming from an unrelated business background. He therefore remembers what it is like to start in this role with no NHS experience, so well placed to help any new PMs who might be in that position. The only way Matt has survived in his role is due to the excellent network of Practice Managers that there are in Wessex. It is easy to feel isolated in this job due to the unique challenges PMs face, so it is always encouraging and helpful for Matt to talk and learn from colleagues in other practices on a daily basis. If there is an area of Matt's role he enjoys the most, it would be the operational / financial side, but am happy to listen and help in any way he can.
