As you may be aware, the DH has cascaded a Public Health alert advising GPs not to give the Pfizer (Wyeth) Flu vaccine Enzira, and its generic equivalent, to under 5s. The number of under 5s for whom a flu jab is clinically appropriate for GPs to give a flu jab is very small. The important thing is Enzira is perfectly safe and effective for everyone else.
If you have ordered Enzira you may wish to source a small supply of alternative vaccine for your under-5s. We note the advice of Mr Des McCarthy (PM in North Hants) as follows
it is useful to know that Solvay can help out at a guaranteed discount. However, practices may still be able to get a better profit per dose from other suppliers if they did but ask. Remember, 50% discount on an NHS price of £6.00 delivers a higher profit per dose (£3.00) than 50% discount on a £5.00 NHS price (£2.50), so it is all about the level of discount in relation to the NHS price, not just the level of discount alone.
