We have recently been made aware of a new influenza vaccine being heavily promoted by the Pharmaceutical Industry called Intaza.
Please note that the Chief Medical Officer has not yet released any national guidance on the proposed vaccines for 2010/2011 and we wish to highlight to practices that before you place any orders for this new vaccine, you check with your PCT about whether this will be reimbursed.
This new vaccine is unlike the usual seasonal flu vaccine in that it is administered intra-dermally instead of intra-muscularly and if practices do decide to choose this vaccine (once PCT has confirmed it will be reimbursed), you will need to ensure that the staff administering the vaccine are appropriately trained in line with the guidance from the HPA.
