It was brought to our attention that the spreadsheet that some PCTs were using for data return for the osteoporosis DES was incorrect this year. This was due to an incorrect national spreadsheet being issued by the NHS employers. They have now corrected this and issued a corrected version and they are letting PCTs know. It would be worth practices checking themselves also. The error involved the fact that the removal of patients previously diagnosed with osteoporosis and therefore previously had a dexa scan was not in the correct box. The box contains wording or similar to: Total number of women on the fragility fracture register as at 31st March 2011 aged 75 yrs and over with a fragility fracture sustained between 1 April 2010 and 31 March 2011 but should include the words: excluding those with a confirmed diagnosis of osteoporosis prior to 1 April 2010. The new correct DES calculator is attached here. Your old calculator may still be correct, it is only if PCTs decided to move from their old calculator to the more recent one on the PCC website.
